What Is a V Crossarm Brace?
A V Crossarm Brace is a structural steel support component named for its distinctive “V” shape. It is installed underneath a crossarm on a utility pole, with the two upper ends connected to the crossarm and the lower apex anchored to the pole.
Its primary engineering function is to act as a rigid strut, providing direct vertical support to prevent the crossarm from sagging under the weight of conductors, transformers, or ice loads.
The “Hot-Formed” in its name refers to the advanced manufacturing process: it is heated and bent from a single, continuous piece of steel angle iron, creating a seamless, one-piece structure with no welded joints. This distinguishes it fundamentally from traditional braces fabricated by welding separate pieces together.
Specifications
1. Design & Performance
This brace is hot-formed from a single piece of angle iron, ensuring maximum strength with no welded seams. It is designed for reliable vertical support. Submit your application details for a free engineering analysis and load rating verification.
2. Material
Carbon steel, hot-formed to shape. (Material grade can be specified per request, equivalent to Q235B/ASTM A36).
3. Process
Fabricated via hot-forming process. The one-piece design guarantees uniformity and eliminates weld-related inspections or failures.
4. Corrosion Protection
Hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123.
5. Finish
Characteristic spangled silver-gray of hot-dip galvanizing. Powder coating available upon request for specific colors.
6. Standard Sizes & Models
The following are our key standard models. All critical dimensions can be customized to your drawings.
Key Features
- Unibody, Weld-Free Construction
Formed from a single piece of steel via hot-forming, it has no welded seams, no heat-affected zones, and no potential weld defects. This guarantees uniform strength throughout and eliminates a primary point of failure. - Superior Structural Integrity & Fatigue Life
The seamless flow of metal grains following the V-shape provides optimal load distribution and exceptional resistance to vibration and cyclic loading, significantly outperforming welded assemblies. - Heavy-Duty Corrosion Defense
Fully hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 after forming, ensuring complete, uniform zinc coverage inside and out for long-lasting protection in corrosive environments. - High Strength-to-Weight Efficiency
The efficient V-design and integral construction provide maximum support with minimal material, reducing weight without compromising strength, leading to easier handling and lower shipping costs. - Engineering Support & Customization
We provide complimentary engineering review of your application. Available in custom lengths, angles, and material grades (e.g., Q235B, ASTM A36) to meet your exact structural and dimensional requirements.
Applications
New Distribution Line Construction
Provides standardized, high-reliability support for various crossarm types in greenfield projects. Its one-piece design ensures consistent quality and simplifies installation, forming a durable foundation for new infrastructure.Legacy Line Reinforcement & Upgrades
Serves as a direct, superior replacement for corroded, damaged, or under-performing existing braces. Effectively restores and often enhances the structural rating of aging pole lines, extending their service life cost-effectively.High-Demand & Corrosive Environments
The ideal solution for demanding locations such as coastal zones, industrial areas, and high-wind corridors. Its weld-free, hot-dip galvanized construction delivers exceptional corrosion resistance and fatigue performance where traditional welded braces are prone to failure.Custom-Engineered Solutions
We support non-standard applications with custom braces tailored to specific pole configurations, crossarm dimensions, and unique loading requirements. Submit your drawings or specifications for a engineer-reviewed custom design.
