Secondary Clevis
The Critical Mechanical Link: Connecting Insulator Strings to Transmission Structures with Unmatched Reliability
-
Superior Durability: Manufactured from high-strength steel with strict hot-dip galvanizing (ASTM A153) for exceptional corrosion resistance in harsh environments.
-
Precision Compatibility: Designed to ANSI/IEEE C135.20 standards for secure, standardized connection with suspension insulators (ordered separately) and tower crossarms.
-
Robust Connection: U-shaped clevis design with high-strength bolt ensures a firm, reliable grip on the insulator, effectively transferring mechanical loads.
-
Flexible Configuration: Available in multiple sizes and designs (e.g., CL-12, CL-16) to suit various voltage levels, insulator types, and tower structures.
What is Secondary Clevis?
The Secondary Clevis, also known as an Insulator Clevis or Secondary Link, is an essential component in overhead transmission and distribution line hardware. It serves as the primary mechanical interface, connecting the insulator string to the tower crossarm or pole. This critical fitting safely transfers the mechanical loads—including conductor tension, weight, and wind forces—from the insulator string to the supporting structure.
Unlike the Clevis Insulator (or clevis-type suspension insulator), which is an insulating component, the Secondary Clevis is a fully metallic fitting. Its classic U-shaped design features two arms: one end (with pin holes) bolts to the tower’s Primary Clevis or directly to the structure; the other end (the “socket” or “cup”) accepts the ball pin of the first insulator in the string, creating a flexible ball-and-socket joint.

Specifications
Standards: ANSI/IEEE C135.20, ASTM A153
Material: High-Strength Steel, Hot-Dip Galvanized
Note: This is a standard hardware fitting. Suspension insulators must be ordered separately. Please provide your insulator type/ball pin size or line voltage for our technical team to recommend the correct clevis model.

Applications
Suspension insulator strings on high-voltage and EHV transmission lines
Insulator connections in substation structures
Line maintenance, upgrade, and hardware replacement projects
Quality Assurance
Every batch undergoes stringent quality checks, including dimensional verification, visual inspection, and sample mechanical testing. We ensure each Secondary Clevis meets or exceeds the specified standards before shipment.
Why Shuowei?
- Material & Process Excellence:
Our clevises are forged from high-strength steel, ensuring superior tensile and shear strength. Every unit undergoes hot-dip galvanizing in strict compliance with ASTM A153 specifications. This provides a long-lasting, protective barrier against rust and corrosion, guaranteeing decades of reliable service even in coastal or industrially aggressive environments. - Standardization & Interchangeability:
We manufacture to international standards, primarily ANSI/IEEE Std C135.20. This ensures perfect compatibility and interchangeability with major brands of cap-and-pin suspension insulators (such as the LXP or U-series). Precise dimensions guarantee even load distribution and enhance the overall reliability of the insulator assembly. - Optimized Design & Function:
The U-shaped yoke and clevis width are precisely engineered for a snug fit with the insulator cap. The optimized socket design allows the insulator string to swing freely within a specified angle, relieving dynamic stresses caused by wind. We offer a range of standard and custom sizes to meet requirements from distribution lines to extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission projects.
