What Is a D-Type Cable Lashing Clamp?
A D-Type Cable Lashing Clamp is a two-piece mechanical fastener specifically engineered for aerial cable installations. Its primary function is to permanently terminate and anchor a lashing wire (or a ground wire) to the supporting messenger strand—the overhead cable that carries the actual communication or power lines.
The clamp gets its name from the distinctive shape of its two separate, grooved clamping plates, which resemble the letter “D” when placed around the strand. These plates are drawn together by a high-strength threaded stud and two hex nuts, creating a powerful, adjustable, and vibration-resistant grip.
Key Design Distinction: Unlike the E-Type clamp (which often uses a one-piece, staked design for a permanent, non-removable lock), the D-Type’s two-piece, nut-and-bolt assembly allows for field adjustment, inspection, and potential re-tightening if necessary, offering a different balance of permanence and serviceability.
