Thimble Clevis
The Thimble Clevis is a critical interface component in overhead dead-end assemblies. Its primary function is to serve as a protected, load-bearing saddle that connects the loop of a preformed dead-end grip (guy grip) securely to a dead-end insulator’s ball socket or other terminal hardware (like an anchor shackle).
By providing a smooth, radiused internal contour, it prevents sharp bending and distributes concentrated stress away from the vulnerable grip loop, significantly enhancing the assembly’s fatigue life and overall safety on utility poles and transmission towers.

What Is a Thimble Clevis?
Recognizable by its distinctive heart-shaped or teardrop-shaped body, the Thimble Clevis is a single, solid piece of forged or cast metal that serves as the crucial junction in a dead-end assembly. Used as a terminal fitting in overhead line dead-end assemblies.
Its primary function is to provide a secure and protected connection point between a preformed dead-end grip (such as a guy grip or PG deadend) and the ball socket of a strain insulator or an anchor point on a tower/pole.
The design features a smooth, radiused internal groove (the “thimble” portion) that cradles the loop of the dead-end grip. This critical design eliminates sharp bends and distributes stress evenly, preventing fatigue and wear on the cable strands. The integrated “clevis” ends, with pre-drilled holes, allow for easy and secure bolting to the adjacent hardware.
Constructed from high-strength ductile iron and hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A153, it ensures long-term durability and corrosion resistance for use on pole lines, overhead distribution, and transmission lines.

Specifications
Product Name: Thimble Clevis (Dead-End Thimble)
Material: High-Strength Ductile Iron, Hot-Dip Galvanized
Finish: Hot-Dip Galvanized in strict compliance with ASTM A153
Standard Load Ratings: 40 kN, 70 kN, 120 kN, 160 kN (Custom ratings available)

Standards: Manufactured to meet utility specifications for dead-end fittings.
Key Features
Optimized Stress Relief Design: The heart-shaped (“thimble”) body is engineered with a large-radius groove, eliminating pinch points that could cause premature failure in the stranded cable of the dead-end grip.
Robust Construction: Available as a hot-dip galvanized malleable iron casting or formed steel for high strength and durability. Complete with a high-tensile bolt and nut for a secure, final connection.
Full Range of Load Ratings: Offered in standard mechanical strengths (40 kN, 70 kN, 120 kN, 160 kN) to match the capacity of preformed grips and suit various pole/tower load requirements.
Complete Compatibility: Designed to interface seamlessly with industry-standard dead-end insulators and hardware, ensuring reliable performance in the assembly.
Applications
Terminating guy wires and static lines on utility poles and transmission towers.
Connecting dead-end assemblies between preformed grips and strain insulators.
Providing a protected termination point in overhead ground wire (OPGW/static) systems.
