PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What is a Suspension Clamp?

A suspension clamp supports the conductor or optical cable at intermediate towers, carrying vertical loads and allowing limited angular deviation while minimizing electrical loss and fretting wear. Unlike strain clamps, it is not designed to carry full axial line tension at dead-ends.

Design options

  • Aluminum alloy body + rubber liner (standard energy-absorbing type)
  • Duplex/triangular yoke configurations for large loads or long spans
  • Armor rod suspension sets for ACSR/AAAC and OPGW to spread stress and reduce wear
  • ADSS specific: Short/long span suspension with cushion blocks to limit micro-bending

Specifications

  • Conductor/cable OD coverage (series):
    • Conductors: 10–20, 16–24, 18–26, 22–34, 28–42 mm
    • OPGW/ADSS: 8–12, 10–14, 12–16, 14–18 mm
  • Recommended vertical working load (WLL):
    • Standard suspension: 5–15 kN
    • Heavy-duty/long-span: 12–25 kN
  • Maximum slip load at seat (typical, with armor where applicable):
    • 15–30% of conductor RTS (standard)
    • 30–60% of conductor RTS (heavy-duty + armor rods)
  • Allowable angle (single point):
    • Standard: up to 15°
    • With double suspension or special fittings: up to 30°
  • Electrical performance (conductors):
    • Low temperature rise design; current path per IEC 61284 limits
  • Liner materials:
    • Neoprene/EPDM UV-resistant rubber; polymer cushions for ADSS
  • Hardware:
    • U-bolts, shackles, yoke plates in hot-dip galvanized steel; optional A2/A4 stainless
  • Corrosion protection:
    • HDG ≥ 70 μm typical; options to C5 with Dacromet + sealing or full stainless kits
  • Fatigue/vibration:
    • Validated with Stockbridge dampers; Aeolian vibration and galloping mitigation guidance available

Selection guidance

  • Keep OD within middle of clamp range for best grip and reduced wear
  • Long spans or high wind/ice: select heavy-duty body + armor rods + dampers
  • ADSS: match jacket hardness; use specific cushions to avoid micro-bending
  • Corrosive sites (C4–C5): prefer A4 stainless fasteners or Dacromet with isolation
  • Angle > 15°: use double suspension or angle-specific hardware

Series cover 10–20 to 28–42 mm for conductors and 8–18 mm for OPGW/ADSS variants.

Use heavy-duty for long spans, high wind/ice, or large conductors; pair with armor rods and dampers.

Suspension clamps support vertical loads at spans; strain clamps carry axial tension at dead-ends.

Typically up to 15° for a single suspension; up to 30° with double suspension or special hardware.

Recommended for medium/long spans or abrasive environments to reduce fretting and increase slip load.

Yes—use dedicated suspension sets with proper cushions/liners and, for OPGW, armor rods.

HDG steel hardware standard; options include Dacromet coatings and A2/A4 stainless for C5 environments.

5–15 kN for standard units and 12–25 kN for heavy-duty long-span models.
