PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What Is a Post Base Bracket?

A post base bracket is a structural metal connector anchoring a vertical timber (or engineered wood) post to a concrete footing, slab, pier, or masonry surface. It commonly provides:

  1.  Anchorage against uplift and lateral forces.
  2. Moisture separation or elevation to reduce rot.
  3. Alignment and position control during framing.
  4. Fastener transfer path from post to substrate.

Variants include fixed, adjustable (slotted or threaded), raised (standoff), concealed (knife / internal), and heavy-duty seismic or high-load forms. It is distinct from a simple “post saddle” by engineered edge geometry, uplift retention features, or concealed load path hardware.

About post base brackets

  • Core: post base bracket, deck post base bracket
  • Size-specific: 4×4 post base bracket, 6×6 post base bracket heavy duty
  • Feature-based: adjustable post base, raised post base, concealed post base anchor
  • Material: stainless post base bracket, galvanized post base bracket, HDG post base
  • Application: pergola post base, fence post base, post bracket to concrete

Material & Corrosion Guide

Indoor / Covered Dry: G90 (economical)
Standard Exterior / Deck: G185 / HDG
Pressure-Treated / High Moisture: HDG (thicker zinc) or Duplex for aesthetics
Coastal / Chloride / Marine: 316 stainless (primary) / 304 for moderate salinity
Architectural Appearance: Powder or Duplex (HDG + Powder)
High Chemical / Industrial: 316 + passivation report

Installation

  1. Layout & Mark: Confirm post centerlines on cured concrete/pier (≥ specified cure days).
  2. Drill / Set Anchors: Install anchor bolts or chemical anchors to specified embedment.
  3. Place Bracket: Level base plate; use shims only if permitted; confirm standoff height (if adjustable).
  4. Tighten Primary Anchors: Non-slotted or reference anchor first → plumb adjustment → remaining anchors/slots.
  5. Insert Post: Ensure dry, square-cut end; maintain required gap above concrete if raised design.
  6. Fasten Post to Bracket: Use specified structural screws/bolts; avoid over-torque causing crushing.
  7. Corrosion Sealing (if required): Apply sealant around anchor penetration only if spec directs (avoid trapping moisture).
  8. Final Verification: Check plumb in two axes; record batch & install date for traceability.

CUSTOMIZATION & OEM SERVICES

OEM / Customization

  • Dimensional: Base plate footprint, strap height, standoff height range, slot length/width.
  • Load Feature: Added gussets, thicker plate, dual-strap reinforcement, shear key emboss.
  • Concealed Aesthetics: Knife plate thickness, hidden screw path, powder color matching deck hardware.
  • Branding: Embossed logo on plate, laser batch code, color-coded corrosion tier mark.

Post base bracket emphasizes engineered load path (uplift, lateral) and moisture separation; a simple anchor may only locate the post.

By elevating the post end, capillary moisture uptake and surface pooling are reduced, extending service life when combined with proper sealing.

Not optimally; separate seat geometry preserves bearing and lateral restraint; adjustable multi-size compromises performance.

Use PB Adjustable Slot variant; tighten reference bolt first, then align and torque slotted side.

High chloride, splash zones, coastal decks, or chemical exposures where zinc lifespan is insufficient.

Duplex (HDG + powder) balances cost and appearance; 316 outperforms in harsh chloride cycles but at higher cost.

Yes (Duplex system) provided surface prep (sweep blast / passivation management) to ensure adhesion.

Yes—provide target kN; engineering review may adjust thickness, strap height, anchor spec, or gusset design.
